«Living conditions for LGBTI people in Nordic rural areas»

Abstract
«The research review shows that interest in the living conditions of queer people in rural areas in the Nordic countries has increased over the last 10–15 years. The research focuses in particular on settlement patterns, the experiences of young queer people, organisation and meeting places, as well as the significance of religion. The findings reveal both challenges and opportunities: whilst norms relating to gender and sexuality can create limitations, examples of a sense of belonging, local engagement and inclusive communities are also highlighted. At the same time, there are significant gaps in our knowledge, particularly regarding the peripheral areas of the Nordic region and how place affects the living conditions and quality of life of queer people».
